So, after scoring a cancellation at our local kid's gym, I had three days to arrange a Pirate Party for Geronimo. The rules: low sugar (cause sugar is evil, you know?), nothing time consuming, little-people-friendly, and transportable. We had a red, white and blue colour theme and I tried to stay away from the skull and crossbones, which I find a bit macabre for a children's party. Or children's clothes, for that matter. Or bedding. Don't get it. But anyway...
1. Make and photograph a little peg Pirate Cabin Boy, based on this genius inspiration (check our their slide show for other peg doll ideas!)
2. Assemble bits and pieces for children to make their own Cabin Boy and print instructions.
3. Assemble party bags, including the peg craft and whatever other fun bits and pieces you have around the house: jokes, bubble mixture, dice, balloons, markers, stickers, playing cards, a coin from another country etc. If you must (and I found I must), throw in a lolly.
4. Cover little bottles of water in cute paper (thanks lovely friend for the inspiration - you know who you are!). It turns out, no one will complain about the lack of juice (evil for sure) or fizzy drink (super evil) if they are sipping water out of adorable bottles through colourful straws. Phew.
5. Sew enough table clothes to cover the tables at your venue. There are some instructions here or here.but it's really just measure, cut, wash, turn edges over, iron, then sew. Respond with great confidence with husband asks if you really, really need to be doing this the night before the party. Also respond with great confidence when the birthday child selects a cake from the same book that spawned the cake from hell last party that was only redeemable thanks to a strategically placed feather boa.
