It's like a new day to the power of 365. A fresh start, new opportunities, endless open-endedness, and the delightful knowledge that things will happen this year that I can not possibly foresee. Good things. God things.
On the last day of 2012 Killer and I listened to Unleashed by Erwin McManus as we drove to the south-west for a beach holiday. I can't think of a more perfect launch pad for a new year:
How is it possible that, for many of us, being a good Christian is really nothing more than being a good person?" The entire focus of our faith has been the elimination of sin, which is important but inadequate, rather than the unleashing of a unique, original, extraordinary, wonderfully untamed faith.
and this:
God's will for us is less about our comfort than it is about our contribution. God would never choose for us safety at the cost of significance. God created you so that your life would count, not so that you could count the days of your life.
Disquieting. In just the right way.
The sort of words that embolden my husband in his quest to inject wildness and risk into our life. Not stupid, ill-considered risk. Just things like encouraging the little vonerables to do bombies from the kayaks out in the deep and back flips off the jetty. I love that a play-it-safe girl like me gets to do life with a wild man but sometimes it's better if I'm not close by. Unless, of course, there are important photo-ops.
